David Bannon, Chief Executive Officer
David Bannon is co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Headwall Photonics, responsible for shaping the Company’s vision and corporate direction. Through his entrepreneurial leadership, David has positioned Headwall as a worldwide provider of instrument-based spectral sensing solutions that touch many aspects of daily life. From precision agriculture and industrial food inspection to critical areas such as homeland security and military reconnaissance, David has helped bring the science of spectral imaging to new application areas and geographical regions while ushering in entirely new and affordable product categories.
As a successful entrepreneur with 20 years of “start-up” experience, David has used his management expertise to establish Headwall as a world-class manufacturer of high-performance spectral instruments and sensor technology. David has authored numerous technology and application articles and has established key patents in the area of spectral imaging. He has also chaired industry association forums and often speaks to diverse audience groups on the topic of spectral sensing and imaging technology.
Active in the non-profit sector, David also sits on the Board of Trustees of the Foundation for Metrowest, a philanthropic organization based in Massachusetts.
Tom Mikes, Managing Partner - Applied Spectral Partners
Tom is the former founder of American Holographic and holder of numerous technology patents. Tom has gained an international reputation as an expert in optical engineering and a pioneer in the development of holographic grating technology. As managing partner of Applied Spectral Partners, Tom is responsible for establishing the firm's overall investment strategy as well as identifying emerging technology and investment opportunities within the field of optics and nanotechnology manufacturing.
Tom Crotty, Senior Advisor - Battery Ventures
Tom Crotty has been a venture capitalist for over 30 years, including a dozen years as Managing Partner of Battery Ventures. He began his Venture Capital career in 1986 when he joined Abacus Ventures. He has been in the technology industry since 1980, starting at IBM in its mainframe business. Tom has exceptional experience in successfully working with technology growth companies, leading investments in dozens of early-stage companies to position Battery Ventures as one of the industry’s premier venture firms.
Melba Crawford, Associate Dean of Engineering for Research - Purdue University
Dr. Crawford joins Headwall's Board as a leading expert in the field of remote sensing and agronomy at Purdue University. Her focus is primarily on data analysis and image classification for agricultural applications. With experience working with imaging sensors deployed on satellites and hyperspectral sensors built for small UAVs, Dr. Crawford has a very distinguished track record not only of teaching the science of remote sensing, but of successfully deploying the technology across her fields of study. Dr. Crawford previously served as President of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society. Dr. Crawford's other roles at Purdue include: Professor of Agronomy, Civil and Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Chair of Excellence in Earth Observation.
Larry Barstow, Co-Founder
Larry Barstow is a co-founder of Headwall. His vision and leadership have proven critical to the successful emergence of Headwall as the world's leader in high-performance diffractive optics technology. His role consists of the establishment of Headwall's operational vision, building the industry's strongest team, and functional oversight of the Company's manufacturing capabilities.
Prior to the management buy-out from Agilent Technologies, Larry was General Manager of the Agilent Holographic Grating Operation. In this capacity Larry had operational responsibility for engineering, manufacturing operations, and customer interface. He has over 20 years experience (16 years with Hewlett Packard / Agilent Technologies) as an executive in high-volume design and manufacturing operations for products in the life sciences/medical and telecommunications industries.
Larry received a master's degree in engineering from MIT and a bachelor's degree in engineering from Cornell University.

David Bannon, Chief Executive Officer
Peter Clemens, Director of Engineering
Peter Clemens is Headwall's Director of Engineering and Development. He brings 30 years of engineering and applications expertise in the design and development of spectral imaging systems. Pete’s experience has been working in engineering and operations where he has taken over 50 different imaging products through design development into full-scale production.
Before joining Headwall, Pete was the Technical Director of Operations for BAE Systems. While at BAE Pete held many roles within system engineering, engineering management and operations. Over that time period, the company transitioned several times, from Honeywell's electro-optics division to Loral infrared imaging systems to Lockheed-Martin imaging systems and finally to BAE Systems.
With experience working for four of the top scientific engineering companies in the world, Pete brings a broad base of technical expertise and engineering management to Headwall’s product development and engineering initiatives.
Pete attended Northeastern Technical Institute as well as Northeastern University where he studied electrical engineering.
Tom Breen, Director of Global Sales
Tom Breen is Headwall’s Director of Global Sales and he brings with him significant experience across many of the end-user markets served by the Company.
Prior to joining Headwall, Tom held Executive Leadership positions at UTC Aerospace Systems where he was responsible for sales and business development of airborne and hand-held products. Prior to this, Tom served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for General Dynamic’s Axsys Technology Division in Nashua, New Hampshire. Other senior management positions at L-3 Communications, BAE Systems, and Lockheed Martin provided Tom with the background that will allow Headwall to grow its business in the rapidly expanding Hyperspectral market.
Tom is a published author, with numerous works produced for IEEE, SPIE, and AAAE. Tom’s educational background includes MBA and BSEE degrees from Northeastern University in Boston.
David Blair, Director of Operations
David Blair, Headwall’s Director of Operations, brings experience with government, commercial, and international customers through the delivery of high-technology products from prototypes to full-rate production. He has over 10 years of experience with mixed-model manufacturing, partnership with customers and suppliers, and a hands-on approach to leadership.
Prior to joining Headwall, David was the Director of Operations for BAE Systems’ threat countermeasures product line. During his time at BAE Systems, David held many roles across Operations, including factory management, supply chain planning, program/project management, strategic initiatives, and customer support.
David received a Master’s degree in technology management from the University of New Hampshire and a Bachelor’s in Biology from Colby-Sawyer College. David is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.
Jim Gennari, Director of Finance
Jim Gennari, Director of Finance, brings more than 20 years of high technology industry management experience to Headwall Photonics. Prior to joining the Company, Jim was CFO of Industrial Defender, a leading provider of cyber security solutions for control systems in the oil and gas, utility and chemical industries, until its sale in 2014 to Lockheed Martin. Previously, Jim was CFO of CoreStreet LTD, a venture-backed identity and access management software company that was sold to a public company in 2010. Prior to CoreStreet, Jim served as CFO for several venture backed companies where he was responsible for managing financial growth, driving corporate governance and scaling operations. Jim started his career in public accounting at KPMG, specializing in the manufacturing and high tech industries. He is a certified public accountant.
