Japan's Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako attended the opening ceremony of the IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) 2019 held at the Pacifico Yokohama Conference Center in Yokohama from July 28 to August 2. The symposium is considered a premier event in remote sensing and the Headwall Photonics booth was busy.
Not only was the temperature high ('feels like' 114 ºF) in Yokohama, but interest was high for compact, rugged spaceborne hyperspectral imaging payloads and turnkey airborne systems with both hyperspectral imaging & LiDAR. Authorized resellers ARGO Corporation (Japan) and NBL (China) were present in the Headwall booth to meet with existing customers, as well as to provide region-specific information for Headwall products for new customers.
Researchers at the University of Waterloo presented a poster on their use of a Headwall UAV with a Nano-Hyperspec® payload for airborne water and agriculture monitoring. They are just getting started with the drone, and we anticipate great things coming from the Department of Geography and Environmental Management in Ontario.
And finally yes, there is a Cup Noodles Museum in Yokohama. Perhaps we can bring hyperspectral imaging to the inspection processes for this iconic food product!
