  • Regional Sales Manager - Northeast US

  • Product Manager – Machine Vision

    Headwall builds spectral solutions that address important problems across key markets. You will play a hands-on role in defining the vision, prioritizing features, and managing the product roadmaps for solutions. This role will also work closely with engineering, sales, marketing, manufacturing and customers to challenge the boundaries of what’s possible and build product roadmaps, finding new opportunities for growth. You are a key player executing our company strategy to make our spectral products more connected and integrated into our customer’s workflows, directing the lifecycle of our products.

    The successful candidate will be highly collaborative, technically savvy, and passionate about delivering impactful user experiences to customers. You will have experience and knowledge in marketing, product launch, pricing strategy, product management and product readiness with strong knowledge of spectroscopy and analytical instrumentation. You will be the subject matter expert for understanding important market trends, competitive environments, and key customers.

  • Software Engineer

    Reporting to the Software Development Manager, the Software Engineer will have responsibilities in new product development and sustaining of existing products. The candidate will be responsible for the specification, design, development, and documentation of code. Our codebase is written in C++, and an eligible candidate should be proficient in this language. Knowledge of other machine vision toolkits and libraries (such as OpenCV) is a plus. Additionally, the candidate may be called upon to use their capabilities to support automated build process and testing. The candidate must be a fast learner, strong problem solver, and exceptional communicator. They must have a proven ability to understand complex problems and requirements as described by customers, product managers, and scientific and engineering staff. Due to export restrictions, the candidate must be a US Citizen.

    Roles & Responsibilities

    • Create, review and debug code following Agile methodology for stand-alone applications and larger collaborative systems.
    • Specify, design, develop, and document code for new product development as well as existing products.
    • Support automated build process, testing, and QA/QC.

  • Gratings Optical Quality/Test Technician

    Headwall is looking for a motivated individual to join our Gratings production team at our Fitchburg, Massachusetts, facility. This position is primarily responsible for ensuring quality of our optical components, which includes incoming inspection of our optical substrates and final testing of our gratings.

    Responsibilities

    • Testing of product with Zygo interferometers, roughness tools, and other laser based testing tools
    • Inspect for scratch/dig criteria and other surface quality specifications using microscope
    • Support glass handling, cleaning, and inspection operations
    • Communicate quality or compliance concerns with urgency
    • Develop and maintain inspection reports
    • Collate data and report on trends and anomalies
    • Ensure compliance to federal and state laws, as well as company standards and specifications
    • Perform inspections across all stages of production
    • Identify areas for quality and process improvement
    • Provide support to the coating lab: clean room housekeeping, data collection 
    • Completes work order documentation describing jobs performed and enters time spent for each job promptly
    • Maintain clean equipment and work area in line with a lean manufacturing operation

    Essential Duties

    • Ability to work in clean room environment

  • Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer

    Headwall Photonics is a leading designer and manufacturer of complete spectral instrumentation solutions for remote sensing, advanced machine vision, and government/defense markets. With a worldwide base of end-user and OEM customers, Headwall enjoys a market leadership position through the design and manufacture of spectral solutions that are customized for application-specific performance. The Company is headquartered in the US, and has three European locations in Belgium, Germany, and Italy. European headquarters operations at Headwall BVBA are located near Brussels, Belgium.

    Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, the Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer will perform mechanical design and analysis for terrestrial, airborne, and space-based hyperspectral imaging (HSI) systems, tooling, and test equipment. These efforts will include leading the design of complex opto-mechanical systems, designing hardware that satisfies system requirements, providing full design documentation, and detailing parts and assembly drawings to support the development, manufacture, and test of HSI systems. The role will also support new business opportunities and mentor, lead and develop junior engineers, designers, and technicians. The candidate must be a fast learner, strong problem solver, and exceptional communicator. They must have a proven ability to understand complex problems and requirements as described by customers, product managers, and scientific and engineering staff.     Responsibilities

    • Lead the design and engineering of state-of-the-art HSI products, subassemblies, and production equipment through all phases of development and manufacturing.
    • Create part and assembly models, detailed drawings, and associated parts lists, in accordance with AMSE Y14.5 and Headwall drawing standards.
    • Analyze and present modeling and test data.  Review results with technical staff, external partners, and customers. 
    • Provide domain leadership to project teams in the preparation of requirements, cost estimates and schedules.
    • Prepare for, and participate in, comprehensive reviews of one’s own work product as well as that of peers.
    • Evaluate product performance at the component and system levels via both computer modeling and hands-on experimental methods. 
    • Help develop and execute component reliability and qualification tests, especially accelerated aging, high stress conditions, and test to failure.
    • Support the product transition to manufacturing, including development of manufacturing and quality procedures, assistance with pilot builds, and troubleshooting during production.

    Qualifications (Basic)

    • 10+ years of experience in hands-on opto-mechanical design and development.
    • Practiced in free-space lens and mirror mounting techniques, flexure and kinematic mount design, as well as optical assembly, alignment, test equipment and tools.
    • Knowledge of various adhesive applications and bonding techniques in opto-mechanical designs.
    • High proficiency in using SOLIDWORKS for mechanical design and documentation.
    • Proficiency with finite element analysis (FEA) method for stress analysis, modal analysis, and heat transfer analysis.
    • Competency with GD&T to achieve high precision results in the design process.
    • Able and efficient with modern documentation, presentation, and collaboration applications, e.g. MS Office.
    • Superior oral and written communication skills.
    • Capable and self-sufficient in building and testing physical assemblies and apparatus

    Qualifications (Preferred)

    • Master’s degree or PhD in mechanical engineering or a closely related field.
    • Practiced in athermalized telescope design and optics mounting in a space environment, adhesive applications in ultrahigh vacuum, and laboratory interferometer and optical alignment experience.
    • Ability to formally organize and manage technical development projects, i.e. creating work breakdown structures, schedules, and reports.
    • Working knowledge of hand tools, machining methods, materials, and processes.
    • Proficiency in failure analysis methodology and documentation.
    • Capable in design for cost/ reliability/ manufacturability for industrial or scientific equipment.
    • Experience using SOLIDWORKS PDM, documentation control and formal documentation release processes.
    • Proven track record of successful designs that have transitioned to high volume production.
    • Formal training in machining and/or other fabrication methods.
