Heather has a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, with a concentration in Communications Media, as well as a Minor in English, from Worcester State University. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Marketing.

Headwall Partner Purdue U to Help Develop Internet of Things for Precision Agriculture

$26 million National Science Foundation grant for commercializing sensor technologies such as hyperspectral imaging for digital agriculture

Bolton, MA, August 12, 2020 – Headwall Photonics, a world leader in hyperspectral imaging systems and solutions, announced today that a close technology partner, Purdue University, has been chosen by the National Science Foundation (NSF) as a key member of a new Engineering Research Center (ERC) dedicated to significant improvements in agriculture as a part of ensuring long-term food, energy, and water security.

The NSF ERC for the Internet of Things for Precision Agriculture (IoT4Ag) unites faculty and students from the University of Pennsylvania, Purdue University, the University of California at Merced, and the University of Florida with government and industry partners. Staff will utilize technology such as Headwall’s hyperspectral sensors integrated onto unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems to create data-driven models to capture and analyze plant physiology, soil properties, management and environmental variations.

Accurate and reliable classification models can be generated using the Headwall MV.X and perClass Mira software on a PC. Those models are then uploaded to IP67-rated MV.X imaging systems on the production line with no need for dedicated computers to store and process the raw hyperspectral data. Amazingly the compact MV.X systems host a runtime version of perClass Mira that outputs the classified data through an industry-standard GenICam interface to robotic systems to take action along the line without any further processing.

Headwall Hyperspectral Sensor System Launched Into Space

Hyperspec VNIR and SWIR imaging sensors launched for Japan Space Systems earth monitoring mission aboard the International Space Station

From Kennedy Space Center in Florida, Headwall announced that its High-Efficiency Hyperspec Sensor System was launched into space for a multi-year, earth-monitoring research mission aboard the International Space Station. The mission known by the name of HISUI (Hyperspectral Imager SUIte) within the earth-observation community supports research being conducted by Japan Space Systems, a leading space exploration organization in Japan.

The Headwall sensor payload consists of two custom, highperformance imaging spectrometers. The High-Efficiency Hyperspec VNIR covers the spectral range from 400nm to 1000nm and the High- Efficiency Hyperspec SWIR covers the spectral range of 900nm to 2500nm. Together they deliver 185 spectral bands over a 20 km swath with 20 x 30 meter spatial resolution. HISUI itself consists of the imaging portion installed in the Exposed Facility (EF) and a mission data recorder installed in the Pressurized Module (PM) of the Japan Experiment Module (JEM) for a three-year mission life.

The Headwall hyperspectral sensor payload was launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 from Kennedy Space Center in Florida at 12:29pm EST / 17:29 GMT-UTC on December 5, 2019. The Headwall team viewed the launch from the Kennedy Space Center observatory along with representatives from the Japan Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI) and senior management from Japan Space Systems.

Headwall Adds Mark Boehm to US Sales Team

Mark Boehm Hired as Southeast US Regional Sales Manager

Mark_A_Boehm_StandingBolton, MA – October 1, 2019 – Headwall welcomes Mark Boehm to the Sales team as Southeastern US Regional Sales Manager. Mark’s territory consists of the following states: Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.

“What Headwall has done to advance hyperspectral imaging as the go-to technique for remote sensing, machine vision, and other specialized markets including the OEM and custom-application business is eye-opening,” said Boehm. “I look forward to working with the team to become the ‘boots on the ground’, showing customers in my territory the advantages of working with turnkey Headwall systems or utilizing Headwall holographic gratings, spectrographs, and sensors.”

Mark brings over three decades of experience in technical sales and account management in technology-based businesses, most recently at 4D Technology, Princeton Instruments, and Horiba. He was also Regional Sales Manager of the Midwest and Midatlantic territory for PerkinElmer Optoelectronics, and prior to that Regional Sales Manager for Melles Griot, Photonics Division.
